There are strange things happening at Arrowtown’s Lakes District Museum and, to top it off, the curator’s disappeared.
Museum director Jane Peasey says they’ll open the doors to the historic building, which dates back to 1875, at 5.30pm tomorrow for a special event, hoping members of the public are brave enough to enter, and help solve the mystery of the missing curator.
They’ll immediately be thrown back in time, and along the way, they’ll encounter some creepy characters and creepy-crawlies, rogue limbs and, possibly, a body or two, but will have a guide on hand to help them piece together the puzzle.
Museum director Jane Peasey says it’s the first time they’ve hosted a ‘Fright Night at the Museum’, coinciding with Halloween, and hopes it’ll become an annual event.
"This year’s experimental — it’s the first time we’ve done anything like this.
"There used to be lots of events and things in the museum ... and now we’re all [earthquake] strengthened, and it’s safe to be in, we can start using it [more], which is fun."
Peasey says the whole museum will be used for the almost sold-out event, with a few extra lighting and sound touches, courtesy of Visual Events.
She warns "it’ll be quite creepy", and says it’s aimed at kids aged from 8 to 99.
Groups of about 10 at a time will be welcomed every 15 minutes till 7.30pm — tickets, available from the museum, cost $25 for a family, $12 for adults and $5 for kids.
