Locals are being invited this Saturday to a showhome open day at Queenstown’s upmarket Koko Ridge subdivision just below the Ladies Miles highway.

Called ‘Kahiwi Lodge’, the lavish 308 square metre home, beside Kahiwi Lake, was built by David Reid Homes’ local franchise, whose co-owner Fraser Mackenzie is also a partner in the 26-lot subdivision.

Also ‘open’ on Saturday will be the subdivision’s original home, next door, which has been refurbished and is for sale for about $3million — plus next door, a home built by David Reid Homes for major Koko Ridge partner, Arrowtowner Wayne Foley, that’s currently under contract.

Mackenzie says Kahiwi Lodge, presently not for sale, was built to give Koko Ridge buyers, and would-be buyers, inspiration.

The four-bedroom home also includes a media room, two kitchens, including one in a hidden pantry, and a three-bay garage.

It’s clad in MacKenzie stone and burnt Japanese cedar which is also used on the ceiling.

There’s also an engineered oak floor and a high level of thermal efficiency.

House and land were recently valued at $4.2m, Mackenzie says.

He believes, apart from Koko Ridge’s central location, what’s special is the sections are all 2000sqm and, at $1.4m a pop, their per square metre price is only half what a 400sqm Hanley’s Farm section is priced at.

More than half the first 26 lots have sold while five have been built on with another four under way.

Meanwhile, an 11-lot second stage, also comprising 2000sqm sections, has been approved with just the paperwork to come through.

Like the first stage, it’ll be totally screened by a bund from the close-by highway.

  • Saturday’s open day, from 1 till 4pm, includes a bouncy castle, BBQ and giveaways, including a $1000 fresh fish package.
