Recital to benefit St Peter's organ fund

Renowned German organist Martin Rein (pictured) will perform a recital on the 138-year-old pipe organ in St Peter's Anglican Church, Queenstown, on Thursday.

The young director of performing arts and choirmaster at Tudor House boys preparatory school, New South Wales, will play music by composers including Johann Sebastian Bach and blind French organist Louis Vierne, as well as some of his own improvisations.

Rein trained at the Berlin School of Music, where he graduated with a music degree in 1996. He gained an honours degree in organ performance at the Detmold Music Academy four years later.

He studied further with the distinguished New Zealand organist Dame Gillian Weir, in England in 2006.

He has performed throughout the world.

Rein's concert tour will take him to Holy Trinity Cathedral, Auckland, then St Peter's Church on September 27, followed by St Paul's Cathedral, Dunedin, and Basilica of Sacred Heart, Timaru.

His Queenstown recital begins at 7.30pm and admission costs $20 per adult, or $10 concession. All net proceeds will go to the St Peter's organ restoration fund.
