A 49-year-old Queenstown man released from prison five days ago has been charged with burglary of a resort backpackers, and further charges may follow.
Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown, said the man allegedly entered the backpackers and then rifled through the property, stealing items from the fridge and unlocked rooms.
While he had been arrested, further charges may follow, Sgt Watt said.
"We're following up a number of other reports from backpackers with regards to this male.''
