Plaque to honour memory

Admiring a plaque at the official opening of Dr William Anderson Park in Queenstown yesterday are Dr Anderson’s nephew, Rob Lee (left), of Auckland, and Queenstown Lakes Mayor Jim Boult.

Dr Anderson was the sole doctor at Wakatipu’s hospital from 1920 until 1950.

He was also an elected member of the Queenstown Borough Council for 27 years, including 15 as mayor.

Located off Windsor Pl on Queenstown Hill, the park has had a major upgrade funded by a bequest from Dr Anderson’s daughter, Prof Jan Anderson.

It now has a memorial plaque and weather vane, seating and new planting.
