Paraglider crashes near Glenorchy

A female paraglider has been injured in a crash near Glenorchy this afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said emergency services were called to the scene, near Kinloch, just after 1pm.

St John spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said a rescue helicopter was deployed from Te Anau and arrived at 3.05pm.

The injured woman was airlifted to Lakes District Hospital with moderate injuries.

The initial reports were two people were paragliding and one crashed on a steep hill.

The area was inaccessible by road so the helicopter was deployed.
