A new initiative supporting Queenstown-Lakes and Central Otago community organisations is holding two free workshops to help up-skill them.

Huddl’s first workshop, this coming Tuesday, aims to increase non-profit board members’ confidence in reading and interpreting financial statements.

"It’s important all board members and trustees are clear on how funds are being managed," huddl project lead Fiona Reeve says.

The ‘Finance 101’ workshop — supported by accountants McCulloch & Partners — runs from 4.30 till 6pm at St John’s Frankton rooms.

Then, on February 27, huddl’s hosting a constitutional review workshop, with Otago Community Law, to help local groups update their constitutions to comply with the new Incorporated SocietiesAct.

"Whether you’re a sports club, arts group, multicultural organisation or anything in between, this workshop is open to all incorporated societies," Reeve says.

"If you don’t re-register under the new act, your society could cease to exist, which can affect your funding and operations."

This workshop, from 9.30 till 11am, takes place at the Salvation Army’s Frankton headquarters.
