A tourist driver crashed head-on into an oncoming vehicle after "losing control on an S-Bend" shortly after 11.30am on the Crown Range yesterday, police say.

Constable Brian Fitzgerald, of Queenstown, said the 31-year-old female single occupant of a rental car was not injured when "the vehicle spun out of control and hit an oncoming vehicle."

Const Fitzgerald confirmed four people were travelling in the other vehicle and the front-seat passenger was taken to hospital with an injury to her hand.

Two St John ambulances and fire crew from Arrowtown and Frankton attended the accident, just before the Eastburn Rd on the Queenstown side of the Crown Range.

The road was reduced to single-lane traffic while debris was cleared and reopened  shortly  after 1pm.

Const Fitzgerald said at the scene inquiries were ongoing and was unable to confirm whether any charges would be laid.
