About 50 Auckland and Hamilton mums, their 80 relatives and well-wishers descended on Queenstown for a specially themed Air New Zealand flight to celebrate Mothering Sunday and New Zealand Music Month yesterday.
The day trip surprise was kept from the mums, the oldest of whom was 87. The in-flight entertainment was by New Zealand's Hottest Home Baker, Colin Mathura-Jeffree, who judged the home-baked goods brought for a competition.
More FM presenter Nicki Sunderland, as master of ceremonies, introduced singer-songwriters Jason Kerrison, of Opshop, and Luke Thompson and Ria. The artists also brought their mothers along.
The party was whisked by buses to the Skyline Gondola restaurant, in Queenstown, where the artists performed two or three songs on stage.
All 130 passengers returned to Auckland by air yesterday, with a More FM "Mother" of a quiz being held on board.
