Queenstown police say they located the driver involved in an alleged hit and run due to help from members of the public.
The incident, involving a woman cyclist in her 40s, happened at the intersection of Frankton Rd and Adelaide St after 10pm on Friday.
Police confirmed yesterday they were able to make an arrest after interviewing witnesses.
"We had quite a good description of the man who ran off. That helped us find out who he could be and locate him. The woman, believed to be a hotel worker from Japan, remains in the intensive care unit in Dunedin hospital in a serious condition."
A silver Subaru Impreza was abandoned in the left lane of the road and the driver ran off along nearby Melbourne St.Police said a 33-year-old man will appear in Queenstown District Court today and faces charges of failing to stop and ascertain injury after a crash, and driving dangerously causing injury.
