QT: What did you have for lunch today?
TB: The weather in Auckland today is horrible! It's comfort food time, tomato soup all the way!
QT: What is your favourite food?
TB: Crispy pork and barbecue pork on rice with bok choy. Something my girlfriend put me on to a couple of years ago. It's pretty basic but tastes oh, so good. I could honestly eat it every day of the week. It's the business.
QT: What is your favourite spot in Queenstown?
TB: Peppers Beacon. We got put up there once and man is it flash! Remote control fireplace, big screen TV and a huge balcony overlooking the lake. What more could you want from Queenstown?
QT: Queenstown needs more...
TB: Festivals. I mean, they've got WinterFest, JazzFest, PeakFest and some others, but really, Queenstown goes crazy for festivals. They could have one called PartyFest, where everyone goes nuts. Or maybe one called NutsFest, were everyone parties. The possibilities are endless.
QT: Queenstown needs less...
TB: Expensiveness. Everything is so expensive. A small pack of cheese was $9 and it wasn't even real cheese. It was the processed stuff.
QT: Who are your role models?
TB: Cheesy, yes, but my family. Growing up surrounded by music encouraged me to play. My mother is a piano teacher and my father has played in brass bands for years. It's pretty horrible learning piano off your mum, as she knows when you are and aren't practising! Both my brothers play as well, so there was always someone around to jam with. My oldest brother Matt introduced me to a lot of music which has heavily influenced my styles and tastes.
QT: What was the latest CD you bought?
TB: The new Sola Rosa album Get It Together. I really enjoy this album. There's a great blend of funk, hip-hop, reggae and jazz that only Sola Rosa can pull off. Turn Around is a definite favorite track.
QT: And the latest DVD?
TB: Stevie Wonder, Live At Last. I went to the concert last year and it blew my mind. The DVD is a great representation of this show, although, personally, I think the show they did here was better.
QT: What is your favourite way to relax?
TB: For some of the band members I would say their favorite way to relax is working out. I enjoy sitting in the sun with a cold beverage, listening to music and talking smack with friends.
QT: What winds you up?
TB: People running late. When I first joined the band it bugged the hell out of me. The problem is, we have a couple of band members who can not run anything but late. I've since learnt to deal with it, and I myself now tend to be a bit late - maybe not such a good thing.
QT: What cracks you up?
TB: Karl Pilkington and people like him. I like to talk smack and talking to people who talk as much rubbish as I do is hilarious.
QT: What are you reading at the moment?
TB: I would like to say I read, but I don't. The last thing I read was a biography of trumpet player Chet Baker.
QT: Do you have a favourite quote you live by?
TB: James Brown once said "Hair is the first thing. And teeth the second". Hair and teeth. A man with those two things, he's got it all; what a genius.
QT: If you could do anything, what would it be?
TB: When I was young, I saw a TV show about a repo man. I thought it looked like a sweet job. Either that or a chimpanzee.
