At Wilson Bay on the Glenorchy Rd, near Queenstown, a car ended up on its roof shortly after 2.30pm.
Constable Dan Andrew, of Queenstown, told the Otago Daily Times at the scene the driver was lucky to have escaped without more serious injuries.
''He lost control on an icy road. He had a minor cut to his hand,'' Const Andrew said.
The 39-year-old driver, who is originally from Germany but lives in New Zealand, crashed down a bank. His car came to rest on the beach beside Lake Wakatipu.
Emergency services attended the incident. Temperatures had dropped to 2degC at the time of the crash. .
Given the wintry conditions, Const Andrew urged drivers to ''take it easy'' when driving.
Police also attended other incidents.
Shortly after 12.30pm a car left Coronet Peak Rd.
A police media spokeswoman said conditions were ''dangerous''.
''The informant has hit ice and has gone down a bank about 150 metres up from the intersection. A tree stopped it going any further.''
A vehicle also rolled on the Queenstown side of Crown Range Rd shortly after 5pm.
In Wanaka, two crashes were reported on Cardrona Valley Rd.
She said one vehicle ended up in a ditch in the first incident.
Two cars also slipped off State Highway 94, the Te Anau-Mossburn Highway, at Gorge Hill just before 9.30am yesterday.
There were other crashes in Queenstown over the weekend. One happened on Friday at 11.45pm near the BP roundabout on Frankton Rd and the second at 1.30am yesterday when a vehicle struck a pedestrian on the corner of Stanley and Camp Sts.
The spokeswoman said the pedestrian was taken to hospital in a ''moderate condition''.
Queenstown Lakes District Council communications adviser Sam White said extra patrols were put on throughout the day in response to requests from emergency services.
''One additional grit truck has been patrolling the Crown Range this afternoon and one additional grit truck on the Queenstown to Glenorchy Rd. With wet roads and below-zero temperatures there is a high chance of black ice across the network. Drivers should exercise extreme caution on all roads.''
He urged locals and visitors to check road conditions before setting out on any journey.
