Gordon Ramsay arrives in Queenstown

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is understood to have landed in Queenstown this afternoon - perhaps visiting his old mate Josh Emett.

The sweary Hell's Kitchen star is said to have arrived on a Jetstar from Auckland, where he had earlier shared him adventure on a Lime scooter with his 5.7 million Instagram followers.

Scottish-born Ramsay OBE, whose restaurants have been awarded 16 Michelin stars, mentored MasterChef NZ's Emett, who earned his own Michelin star as head chef at Ramsay's historic Savoy Grill, London.

He worked for about 12 years for Ramsay's restaurants in London, New York and Melbourne, but told Stuff in 2014 Ramsay had sacked him after Maze in Melbourne struggled.

Emett co-owns Queenstown's Rata and Madam Woo, and Hawker & Roll restaurants, with local Fleur Caulton.

Ramsay this week also featured on Hot Ones - a YouTube channel which interviews celebrities while they work their way through a platter of increasingly spicy chicken wings.

He is yet to post anything on social media about his Queenstown trip, though.
