Everyone happy to get a snowsport equipment bargain

Dark clouds and rain did not stop (from left) Lois Gentle, Gidget Mackay and Lizzie Heane, all of Queenstown, from queuing outside the Queenstown Events Centre to grab a bargain at the town's biggest snow gear sale.

The place was swarming with people wanting a good deal on second-hand ski and snowboard gear at the Wakatipu Ski Club Annual Sale yesterday.

Organiser and club patron Peter Devine said thousands of items were up for sale, and he was expecting about 2000 people wanting to buy gear coming through the door by the end of the afternoon.

The items are provided by both the public and ski shops.

People love the annual bargain hunt because they can "deck out for the ski season at the best possible price in town", Mr Devine said.

"It's an event put on by the community, for the community."

Profits from the event support the junior snow sports programme run by the Wakatipu Ski Club.
