Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka said officers responding to specific incidents could not always see footage immediately because the bar or restaurant staff on duty at the time were unable to access it.
The resort's transient community and high number of visitors meant CCTV footage was ``like gold'' for police, and any delay in viewing it made it harder to find or identify potential offenders.
Police spoke to individual business owners about CCTV access and quality issues on a regular basis, but were now planning to take it up with the business community collectively, Snr Sgt Enoka said.
Her comments follow the arrests of two Australian men on Monday in relation to the alleged assault of a 22-year-old man in Camp St on Sunday morning.
The duo, who were identified on CCTV, were apprehended in the departure lounge at Queenstown Airport on Monday afternoon.
