A search and rescue operation in Queenstown on Sunday was a false alarm.
A police spokesman confirmed it was called in by a member of the public - concerned someone was in trouble in Gorge Rd, Arthurs Point, near the Shotover River.
It turned out to be a bleating goat.
''They thought someone was yelling for help in the bush ... Police spoke to the person who called it in. Police at the scene were confident it was goats calling, not a person.''
A search and rescue operation started at 12.20pm and ended about an hour later.
