Vacant apartments are being transformed into fashion showrooms in Queenstown.

Auckland clothing designer Kylee Davis will bring her "high-end designer knitwear" collection to Queenstown on June 25 for a show at Commonage Villas on Queenstown Hill.

The first show was held in April in a multimillion-dollar Mount Maunganui penthouse and was quickly followed by another at an inner-city Auckland apartment.

After those successes Ms Davis, who has partnered with Bayleys Real Estate for the events, announced additional shows nationwide.

Far from being mass-produced, her knitwear was handcrafted. It was made using specialty yarns, including merino, alpaca, possum and cashmere, she said.

When choosing a venue, Ms Davis looked for places with "particular characteristics" to complement her garments.

"The idea of hosting private showings in hotels and function venues has been truly done over the decades, but while we wanted something personalised that would be received as more of a social event, we didn't want to host shows in tenanted private homes as they are a little too personal."

Her shows were "a little bit more of an event" than traditional catwalk scenarios.

They featured live music from local musicians, presentations, fittings and a service for women to get advice on style and colour.

"It really depends on the size of the space, but there will be live music as the guests arrive, we serve drinks and I have a small team of ladies who come in - I also recruit those in the area.

"After everyone has arrived, we cue the musician that it's the last song, I do a small presentation and the clothes are unveiled."

The shows were invitation only and Ms Davis began by notifying people in her database of them.

People could email kylee@kyleedavis.com to register their interest.
