Heavy  rain failed to pour cold water on the Queenstown Catholic primary school's annual book fair celebrations.

As the heavens opened on Sunday, pupils, parents and locals packed into St Joseph's on Beetham Street, near the resort's CBD.

The book fair is the school's major yearly fundraiser - and despite the weather it still generated more than $19,000 for the school's coffers.

Along with book sales, students pitched in with money-raising stalls, such as cupcake sales, moss gardens and fairground activities.

Principal Trisch Inder said on Sunday: ``We set up for wet or dry, so there's still a great vibe - lots of energy.

``The year seven and eights, it's probably the best yet in terms of all the planning they've done, the set up, and the activities.

``We have them altogether in one place this year and it's worked really well.''

Pupil Mishika Sikka (12) was on the moss garden stall.

``It takes us about 20 minutes to make each one and they're selling very quickly.''

The fair was well supported by the Queenstown community, with more than 1000 people through the door.
