Arrowtown opera singer Austin Haynes has made it through to the grand final of the 2024 Lexus Song Quest to be held at Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre on Saturday.
The 23-year-old countertenor is one of five finalists vying for a share of $92,000 in prizes.
In its 68-year history, the opera singing competition has launched the careers of some of New Zealand’s most celebrated singers, including Dame Malvina Major, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Phillip Rhodes, Jonathan Lemalu and Sol3 Mio’s Amitai Pati.
