Youth charged

A Christchurch youth has been charged with bashing a retired Alexandra man early yesterday who was holidaying with his wife in Kingston.

Constable Jason Reid, of Queenstown, said the couple were woken at 3am by a car doing "donuts" and spraying gravel on to their campervan.

The Alexandra man went out to confront the three males in the car and they drove off.

Constable Reid said two of the males later returned and one began punching the retired man.

The victim suffered bloodshot eyes, a bleeding nose and swelling to his head and face and was later admitted to Lakes District Hospital where he was kept under observation for the night.

Const Reid said an 18-year-old male, who is known to Christchurch police, will face an indictable charge of injuring with intent to injure.
