Jeremie Jobard (25) and Sarah Santini (21) were halfway through their year in New Zealand and cooking up a storm in Murchison when the Queenstown Times called last week.
The dynamic duo said they had prepared ''a lot'' of dinners in in Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson and Golden Bay.
They intended to arrive in the Wakatipu in three or four weeks, Mr Jobard said.
''We love to cook with the freshest produce and are keen to take a new approach to French cooking, using traditional practices with New Zealand ingredients.''
Mr Jobard was a commis chef and Ms Santini an apprentice in the Ritz Paris Hotel.
They studied previously for more than four years and earned their baccalaureat professionnels in French cuisine.
They came up with the concept of French Chefs at Home when they decided to take a break and travel.
''We wanted to work while we travelled but not in restaurants ... [or] cafes. This seemed the perfect way to combine our love of cooking and food with a great opportunity to meet new people,'' Mr Jobard said.
Ms Santini said: ''We can either prepare one of our menus, or if people have something in particular in mind we are really happy to cook what they want.''
The pair said they cater from two to 20 diners and look after everything from buying the ingredients to cleaning up afterwards.
Their basic rates are $60 per person for a three-course menu and the shopping price is at the patron's expense.
