Australian host Tanya Papandrea tells Henrietta Kjaer about her second season on the mountain - this year in a job as the person who greets visitors with a smile, gives directions and answers questions.

Queenstown Times: Why did you choose this job?

Tanya Papandrea: Because its fun, social, and I get to be outside a lot.

QT: What made you come back for a second season?

TP: I worked in food and beverage last season, but came back to this role because I love snowboarding and working up the mountain.

QT: What kind of job did you do before you took up this job?

TP: I worked mainly in hospitality.

QT: What is the best thing about your job?

TP: That I get to snowboard every day.

QT: Which challenges comes with the job as host?

TP: You can get some really strange questions. Like when a visitor, in all honesty, asked me if we could please do something about the visibility out on the slope on a cloudy day . . . How do you answer that question in a nice way?

QT: Who would your job appeal to?

TP: You will have to be outgoing, flexible and cheerful.

It will appeal to people who can handle anything that is thrown at them and enjoy meeting lots of new people.

QT: What is your best advice to people who move to Queenstown for seasonal work?

TP: Make sure you organise a job and sort your accommodation before you arrive.

QT: What has been your most amusing or surprising on-the-job experience so far this season?

TP: Watching and talking to people about their experiences with learning to ski and snowboard.
