A man who allegedly assaulted his partner in Wanaka yesterday was later stopped in Queenstown and questioned by police about his actions.
Senior Sergeant Allan Grindell said police received a report yesterday morning about the man allegedly picking a woman up and throwing her into a car at a location beside Lake Wanaka near the start of the Waterfall Creek.
Police were given a description of the man, understood to be of Asian or Arabic ethnicity, and the rental car the pair were travelling in, Snr Sgt Grindell said.
After patrols checked different accommodation outlets in Wanaka, it was established the man and his partner intended to travel to Queenstown, he said.
A patrol had later stopped the man and his partner when they arrived in Queenstown.
The man may face charges in relation to a statement taken from a witness.
