New Zealand singer-songwriter Dave Dobbyn promised "some good rocking tonight" as he launched into his 90-minute set at Millbrook Resort, in Arrowtown, yesterday.

Dobbyn, with Anika Moa and Opshop, played the final date of the More FM Winery Tour on an open air stage on the resort's grounds to about 2500 fans.

The audience enthusiastically welcomed all the acts but hundreds jumped to their feet and made for the stage when the award-winning Dobbyn delivered his own Slice of Heaven.

A mix of sunglasses, rugs, picnic hampers, chillybins, prams and raincoats were the order of the day among the family-orientated audience.

Millbrook Resort spokesman David Onions said the feedback from spectators had been positive.

"We're delighted with the attendance here.

"For a tiny town like Queenstown, to get this support, we certainly punch above our weight.

"The weather forecast for the weekend was quite poor but we're glad it's held off and everybody's enjoying themselves."

The Winery Tour was in its third year, with 52 artists and crew travelling to 14 venues for 17 shows.

Promotor Campbell Smith, of Civic Events, said the bands were on top form and Millbrook Resort was "a great place to play because it has a great reach of people and it's beautiful, with mountain ranges all around you and the grass is like carpet."
