Queenstown Primary School year 6 pupils explored the great outdoors at Sydney Cove, on Ulva Island, near Stewart Island, earlier this month.

All 81 pupils in year 6, plus 20 adults in support, were split into two groups for the 25th annual school camp on Stewart Island. Mr Western said the activity-packed programme included self-management and seashore, bush and waste management studies.

The trip gave Queenstown children a wealth of new experiences, such as the ferry crossing and the nature of tides.
