NZSki plans to upgrade the wastewater system at the Coronet Peak Ski Area, pending approval of a resource consent to construct a new pumphouse.
The proposed pumphouse would be constructed next to the existing wastewater oxidation ponds to enable the operation of a secondary treatment plant, as required by the conditions of a recently issued discharge permit.
"It's really just a formality," said NZSki ski area manager for Coronet Peak Hamish McCrostie.
"We have got a wastewater system and it's working perfectly fine at the moment."
The upgrade needed to be completed before the start of the ski season for practical reasons and, in line with previous Remarkables and Coronet Peak developments, any removed vegetation would be reinstated and oversown with alpine grass, he said.
