Two dead after truck crash on Crown Range

Two people are confirmed dead after a truck crash about 3pm on the Crown Range Road, between Queenstown and Wanaka.

Senior Constable Julian Cahill said both people were travelling in the truck, which overturned on a sharp bend on the Queenstown side of the road's summit.

No other vehicle was involved in the crash.

The truck was carryng a load of carpet and the two men were trapped in the cab of the vehicle. 

Police could not immediately confirm the ages of the dead people.

The police's serious crash unit is investigating and the deaths have been reported to the coroner.

Fire Service volunteers at St John Ambulance attended the crash.

Police are advising the next of kin and no further details will be released this evening.

The Crown range road was closed and was expected to be reopened at 9pm.
