Two in court over Wanaka assault

Two men have appeared in court charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm on a Wanaka man, who remains in a critical condition.

The men, granted interim name suppression, allegedly attacked Kahu Jordon Vincent at the town's Night 'n' Day store at 3am on Saturday.

Father-of-two Mr Vincent, aged in his late 20s, sustained critical injuries and was flown to Dunedin hospital.

The two men appeared in Queenstown District Court this morning and were remanded without plea until 10am tomorrow for a bail hearing in the same court.

Duty solicitor Joseph Mooney successfully applied for interim name suppression for the men, saying they had not yet had the opportunity to inform some members of their families of the charges they face.

Mr Mooney said there are also "identification issues" with regards to one of the men, which could be a factor in the case.

One of the men also faces a charge of wilfully attempt to prevent the course of justice by threatening to kill a third man if he spoke to the police.

Judge Michael Turner remanded both men in custody. They are jointly charged that they "with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to Kahu
