Tourist overboard incident

Maritime New Zealand has decided not investigate an incident involving Sail Queenstown's America's Cup yacht on Lake Wakatipu at the weekend.

It is understood an American tourist fell out of the sight-seeing yacht into Lake Wakatipu on Saturday.

Harbourmaster Marty Black said the incident had been referred to Maritime NZ (MNZ) but declined to give any details.

MNZ spokesman Ross Henderson confirmed the incident had been reported to the agency.

"Based on the information we have received, we do not intend at this stage to take the matter further.

However, this may be reviewed should any new information come to light."

A Transport Accident Investigation Commission spokesman said it had been notified about a passenger falling overboard but had decided not to investigate.

Sail Queenstown director Craig Smith said the passenger was not injured.
