Blood, sweat and tears were served up to an enthusiastic sold-out crowd at the Queenstown Events Centre on Sunday night, when 22 Queenstown men and women entered the boxing ring during the annual Thriller in the Chiller Charity Boxing Night as part of the Queenstown Winter Festival.
Cheered on by a roaring audience of 1300 supporters, the contestants gave knockout performances to help raise money for the Bruce Grant Youth Trust.
The night started with a World Wide Federation Boxing clash between Marc Perry (77kg) and Matt Wilson (119kg), won, surprisingly, by Perry.
Standing ovations were given to the most intense matches - David Lynott and Jeremy Wynward, and Lisa Murphy and Clare Temperton.
The Blue team was the overall winner, clinching the title with the final bout of the evening, the Battle of the Basin, between Arrowtown rugby captain Aidan "The Assassin" Winter and Wakatipu rugby coach Kelvin "The Bone Crusher" Middleton, which was won by Middleton.
Results: Brett Black beat Dave den Hertog, Jochen Wauters beat Ben Kyllonen, Ryan Keen beat Sean Sutton, Teresa Wallace beat Linda Coultrip, David Lynott beat Jeremy Wynward, Nick Parrish beat John Coles, Alex Ritchie beat Andy Lisseman, Feleki Uhrle beat James Ace, Lisa Murphy beat Clare Temperton, Lee Excell beat Peter Buckley, Kelvin Middleton beat Aidan Winter.
