Top Dog (2013) is a canny canine in more ways than one, for the sculpture is skilfully and wittily crafted of flat tin, steel rods and corrugated iron by Hannah Kidd.

The Methven sculptor will explain how she came to work with the unusual materials and how she uses them to investigate the relationships people have with their environment when she attends the preview of her new exhibition in Milford Galleries Queenstown on Friday from 5.30pm.

''Under Dog'' features five of her latest works and runs until December 11.

Kidd will be joined on Friday by another visitor to Queenstown who will introduce her latest pieces. Auckland artist Christine Cathie presents eight sculptural glass forms in her show ''Contour'', which also runs until December 11.

The Ranamok Glass Prize finalist combines rich colours with a smooth surface to build graceful ribbons and slender curves, letting the light glide in.
