While no senior Wakatipu athletes have been acknowledged for the 2012 season, it is a different story in the junior department with nominations going to pupils of the school for various sports.
The school is represented in four categories: junior sportsman, through golfer Jamie Anstiss; junior sportswoman, through netballer Lucy Robbins and golfer Laura Hoskins; roll of honour awards, through swimmer Sophie Gibson, tennis player Miki Nobuzawa and triathlete Fynn Thomson. Wakatipu High School golf and Wakatipu under-15 rowing squads will also battle it out for the team award.
Senior sports nominations have gone to Alexandra, Wanaka and Cromwell athletes.
Wakatipu rowing coach Annabel Anderson has also received a nomination.
The judging panel of Central Otago Mayor Tony Lepper, Alan Hamilton and Brent Russell selected the finalists. Mr Lepper said the nominations this year were as strong, if not stronger, than in previous years.
''It is fantastic the different sporting groups have recognised so many of their own sporting achievers.''
He said the junior sections were bursting with sporting talent and the judging panel tried to represent a wide range of talents in the finalists selected.
Mr Lepper said the judges wanted especially to recognise the number and quality of the female nominees, particularly in the coach category.
The awards ceremony will be held at the Rydges Lakeland Resort, in Queenstown, on Friday.
