Snow trip may be delayed

Twenty-seven big and little buddies are hoping strong winds at the Remarkables skifield ease before Sunday.

Buddy programme co-ordinator Nanette Benington said the annual winter trip to the snow might be postponed until Sunday, September 23 because of the winds.

The programme sets a "big buddy" up with a "little buddy" and encourages them to get together weekly for a couple of hours.

"Once a year we get a trip [from NZSki] and last year was the first year we tried tubing and they loved it," Ms Benington said.

"It's a great thing to do as a group. This would be our winter highlight." The little buddies were children aged 4-12 and their older counterparts were "wonderful volunteers in the community".

A decision would be made tomorrow on whether to postpone the outing, Ms Benington said.

The final day of the Freeski Open New Zealand was postponed for a second time because of the wind.

A decision is likely to be made early this morning on whether the competition can continue today.
