Daniel Holowaty, an electrician from Brisbane, said the timing was brilliant, because his family end their week-long skiing holiday tomorrow.
"We've been waiting for the snow and the kids have been praying and our prayers have been answered," Mr Holowaty said.
They will today go to Cardrona skifield's opening, which has been postponed since June 24.
Mr Holowaty and his wife Jennifer first brought their family to Cardrona last year and they loved it so much they brought the children's grandmother Helen Barns this year.
"It's the first time I've ever seen snow. And I am 64.
"It's been a real blessing," Mrs Barns said.
Cardrona Alpine Ski Resort sales and marketing manager Nadia Ellis said yesterday Australia was an important market for the skifield, providing the largest contingent of skiers, behind New Zealanders and before United Kingdom and Irish nationals.
