After waiting for 15 years for a home of its own, the Wakatipu Scout Group is celebrating the opening of its new scout den.
The new $125,000 den at Frankton Marina will be officially opened by Queenstown Lakes Mayor Clive Geddes on Saturday.
Group leader Simon Brackstone said the group had been trying to secure its own premises for about 15 years.
"We've been moved from pillar to post, all around Queenstown, in various council buildings.
The council has been good to accommodate us, but finally the cubs and scouts have a permanent home," he said.
The group had started fundraising about 13 years ago for its own building.
It had raised $30,000 and secured grants from Central Lakes Trust and Community Trust of Southland.
The Wakatipu Guides and Brownies would also use the den for their weekly meetings.
"About 70 youth members will be using this wonderful new facility," he said.
All past scouts are invited to the official opening at 4.30pm on Saturday.
