School PTA to benefit from annual harvest festival

The Arrowtown Primary School PTA has been named the recipient of proceeds from the fourth annual Mainfreight Gibbston Harvest Festival, to be held on March 21.

Festival spokesman Timbo Morrison-Deaker said all gate sales would be given to the school's PTA, supporting its work for the school's community.

Mr Morrison-Deaker said he hoped this year's festival, hosted at The Winehouse and Kitchen beside the Kawarau Bungy Centre, would build on funds raised in previous years.

"All the Gibbston wineries and local restaurants showing on the day feel very grateful for all the support that we get year-round from our locals. This is our day to say thanks to all of them for their continued support.

"In turn, we want to help the Arrowtown Primary School PTA for all their outstanding work that they do and we know that fundraising in this current economic climate is going to be extremely challenging.

"The funds raised from our festival's gate sales will be going towards supplying the Arrowtown Primary School with interactive whiteboards.

"Interactive whiteboards can help grow creativity, innovation within classroom programmes and accelerate the publication of learning and ideas.

"We see this as giving a tangible long-term benefit to the community," he said.

The festival was a chance for visitors and locals to enjoy a range of stalls hosted by the winemakers and restaurateurs of the region, simultaneously providing the opportunity to learn about local flavours from the experts.

"We really want to encourage as many people as possible to come and enjoy this fun and relaxed event in a stunning location set among the vines and landscape at the gateway to Queenstown.

"There has been an incredible amount of preparation for this year's events all from volunteers and sponsors and we want to make sure the community gets the chance to enjoy what is shaping up to be one of the highlight community events of the year."

Mr Morrison-Deaker said there would be plenty to entertain the children, including bouncy castles, horse rides and horizontal bungies.

And, for the first time, the Gibbston community had not been asked to come and work at the event, he said.

"[We] are looking forward to having them come, relax and enjoy. I am pretty sure that the Arrowtown, Queenstown, Wanaka and Cromwell communities will be there in force and we all look forward to saying thanks to all of them by offering such a good day out."

Tickets for the festival are $15 (includes your tasting glass) and a gold coin donation for children.

Tickets are available at the gate and car parking is free.

The festival will run from 11am-4pm, with transport to the festival available through Snag Bus Tours.
