Police are still looking for the driver of a stolen blue 1992 Subaru Impreza which crashed into a bus after its tyres were punctured by road spikes during a police pursuit in Queenstown yesterday morning.
The driver ran off.
Sergeant Brian Cameron, of Queenstown, said the car, reported stolen from Franz Josef, was spotted at Kawarau Falls bridge on State Highway 6, at 7.40am. When the car reached Stanley St in Queenstown, a short chase ensued after the driver failed to stop.
Police lost sight of the vehicle and abandoned the pursuit.
The car was found soon after,nearby in Isle St.
Police had a "suspect in mind", Sgt Cameron said.
The car was involved in a minor crash with a bus at the intersection of Athol and Shotover Sts, soon after the driver failed to stop. Sgt Cameron confirmed road spikes were laid.
Police asked anyone who saw the Subaru to contact them on (03) 441-1600.
