In this week's Off Piste, Coronet Peak rentals assistant Elke Marshall, of Australia, shares the highs and lows of her first Queenstown winter.

Name:Elke Marshall.

Job: Coronet Peak rentals assistant.

Q) Where are you from?

A) Flaming Australia mate!

Q) How many seasons have you done in the job and why did you choose it?

A) It's my first season working in Queenstown. I've done two other seasons in rentals in Australia and one season in France being a jobless bum. I chose rentals because I have some experience.

Q) How would you describe the work?

A) Super busy all the time! It's a good thing though because I don't have time to slack off. It's fun because I like to be around people and the shop is always full of them.

Q)
What's the best thing about it?

A) I work with an awesome bunch of people. It's a really fun place to work, with lots of laughs. On my lunch breaks I get to go out on our performance range of skis, which is dope.

Q) The worst thing about it?

A) Having dry man hands all the time. It also took me a long time to get used to getting up at 6.30am, because when I first got to Queenstown I slept in past midday every day. It's also not very pleasant when kids wee in their ski boots. Luckily, that's only happened in Australia.

Q) How are you settling in to Queenstown?

A) Stoked as a goat to be here.

The nightlife is awesome and there is a load to do. We have a ping pong table in our house and it looks like an old steam boat. The best part about Queenstown is the snow - get amongst it.

Q) What's the best advice you have for someone moving to Queenstown for seasonal work?

A) Make sure you have some money. I've been broke since I got here and it's not great unless you love canned soup and beans for tea.

Q) What has been your most amusing skifield experience to date?

A) Well, this happened while I was at Falls Creek in Australia. We were getting off one of the lifts at the summit and my boyfriend got the back of his tall T-shirt stuck on the chair.

The lifty didn't realise he was stuck and he managed to get flipped upside down underneath the chair with his board still attached, dragged all the way around the top and nearly started heading back down the hill still hanging upside down.
