With some of Queenstown's biggest nights on the way during the 2008 American Express Queenstown Winter Festival, the arrival of a marquee in the Ballarat St car park could not have come at a better time.

From the outside, the blow-up marquee resembles a giant ottoman which glows blue at night.

Inside, however, it's a luxury retreat for women of the resort to take time out from the hectic winter festival schedule and spend a little time pampering themselves.

The Lindauer Powder Room is another addition to this year's festival, alongside the Kawarau Falls Station Pavilion.

Once you pass through the double doors, you are greeted by five gorgeous women dressed head to toe in white - almost like snow queens, but possibly a little more stylish.

The women lead you to the bar area, where you will receive a complimentary glass of Lindauer, with your choice of the three Special Reserve varieties - Brut Cuvee, Cuvee Riche or Blanc de Blancs - and while you're supping on your bubbles, you can fill out an entry form to win a hamper valued at over $1000.

But wait, there's more.

After you've filled out your entry and helped yourself to a complimentary chocolate, you can take a seat and wait for a complimentary make-up touch-up by one of four Auckland-based make-up artists, working for Smashbox Cosmetics.

While the queue may take a while to get through, it's worth the wait, with make-up expertly and swiftly applied in your choice of colour tones - blue, copper or "smoky".

Spark Activate senior account manager Antonia Scott said the Lindauer Powder Room was making its debut in Queenstown, but had been at several Auckland events, including Auckland Cup Day, the Melbourne Cup in Auckland and Boxing Day races.

"Queenstown winter festival is a fantastic opportunity to cater to those gorgeous women on the slopes," Ms Scott said.

"It's a gorgeous space where women can come to thaw out, chill out and be pampered."

The inflatable marquee took about three hours to erect, with an interior steel framework in place in case of heavy snowfall.

The Lindauer Powder Room was open from 11am to 7pm from today until Saturday, with the first 40 guests each day receiving a complimentary goody bag from Lindauer and Smashbox, Mrs Scott said.

The lucky goody bag recipients today may well include a group of men, entered in the Downtown Day Drag Race which begins at noon.
