Aim, athleticism and ball skills were on display in the Queenstown CBD yesterday as 32 teams of four went head to head, vying for the title of Queenstown Winter Festival 2013 Dodgeball Champions in front of national selector and Dodgeball New Zealand president Lee Terwei, who was watching from the stands.

However, this year's winners may not be eligible for selection, given all four members of the Harry Schnuts team - Michael Weber, Mike McRae, Kirk Golden and Brian Howitz - are United States imports in Queenstown to play for the Southern Stampede ice hockey team.

Competing in a specially constructed court on Earnslaw Park - complete with protective netting which still did not prevent balls flying into the crowd - teams also dug deep into their wardrobes and dress-up boxes, competing for the best dressed title.

Team Collier C4 scored sartorial Brownie points for their ensembles, dressed in Anchorman-inspired retro news team suits with moustaches.

Last night, Coronet Peak turned on the lights for the first time this season, with George FM's Dan Aux entertaining keen skiers and boarders from the deck as visitors and residents embraced the first night-skiing opportunity for 2013, while others made the most of two drive-in movies at the Remarkables Park Red Barn.

Today, festival highlights include Mountain Mayhem at Coronet Peak, featuring the Dash for Cash, suitcase race, musical chairs and a snow scramble from 11am, before hundreds of people gather at the Queenstown Events Centre to watch residents go head to head in the ring during the annual Thriller in the Chiller charity boxing event.

The 20 fighters have spent more than three months preparing for tonight's event, which will raise money for the Branches Charitable Trust and be attended by guest of honour New Zealand boxing professional Shane Cameron.

The 2013 festival will conclude tomorrow with the Slopestyle Invitational at the Remarkables, the Big Snow Dig at the Remarkables Park Town Centre and the Community Carnival on the streets of the resort from 4pm.
