Police are urging drivers to take more care on wet roads after a spate of crashes on Tuesday.
Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown police, said light rain could make roads greasy and slippery, particularly after a dry period, and drivers needed to slow down.
Slippery roads were implicated in three of five crashes after noon, although an investigation is still under way on a nose-to-tail crash involving six cars on State Highway 6, near the Kawarau Bridge, about 6pm.
Sen Sgt Enoka said no-one was injured but three vehicles were moderately damaged in the crash, which began after a vehicle turned right into a layby.
Two following vehicles managed to avoid the front car, but the final vehicle in a second group of three failed to stop and hit the vehicle in front, which in turn shunted another vehicle before spinning off the road.
A two-car crash on State Highway 6 at Arrow Junction about 2.40pm was caused by a Queenstown-bound vehicle crossing the centreline and hitting an oncoming car, she said.
Two of the four occupants of the first vehicle, all from Wellington, were taken to Lakes District Hospital in Frankton for checks and later discharged.
The sole occupant of the other vehicle, a Dunedin man, was unhurt.
There were also three crashes on the Crown Range road between Queenstown and Wanaka on Tuesday.
