The Arts on Tour New Zealand Trust and arts funding body Creative Queenstown will bring Strange Resting Places to the Arrowtown Athenaeum Hall, on Sunday, June 12.
The play, by writer-actor Rob Mokaraka, was performed in Glenorchy during the 2009 Festival of Colour.
Mokaraka and fellow actors Maaka Pohatu and Barnie Duncan will perform in 18 centres this month.
Creative Queenstown spokeswoman Jan Maxwell said this week Strange Resting Places received "rave reviews" both in New Zealand and overseas. The production's mix of live music, drama and comedy in three languages - Maori, English and Italian - would appeal to a wide range of people, she said.
"It's inclusive theatre at its best. The cast shares coffee with the audience during the prologue and, following the traditions of Maori and Italian hospitality, serve wine and food at the end of each performance.
"It's moving, entertaining and one not to be missed."
Mrs Maxwell said Arts on Tour New Zealand created a menu of shows every year and, with the help of local arts organisations, toured them around the country.
"It gives smaller centres the opportunity to see artists and productions that might not normally attempt a large-scale tour, as well as lessening the risk of a financial loss for the groups acting as local promoters," she said.
"It's a win-win situation for all concerned."
Tickets cost $20 and are available from the Lakes District Museum, the Queenstown Lakes District Council, or at the door from 6.30pm. The show starts at 7pm.
