Children and their parents flocked to a day of fun at City Impact Church on Saturday as rain held off.

Organiser Shaun Vining, who donned pirate attire and adopted a convincing accent, was pleased with the turnout, which included children from as far as afield as Alexandra.

"We're going to make it an annual event. It's nice to have a big, giant, free kids' event in the middle of winter," Mr Vining said.

Next year's event was already being planned and there were suggestions of a "kids' expo and getting sponsors".

Along with an outside bouncy castle, crafts, a beauty room, and biscuit decorating, children were treated to a concert and a game show.

"It's great for parents, because they are getting free coffee and food and you don't get free events in Queenstown," Mr Vining said.
