The Southern Lakes Christian School has applied for resource consent for change of use at the former Frankton Arms Tavern premises to include a child care centre and allow its use as a meeting hall for the Salvation Army.
The proposal seeks consent for Salvation Army use of the building as a community hall for congregational meetings of up to 160 people on week nights and weekends, with the possibility of use for weddings and funerals. The City Impact Church had previously operated from the same building for services.
Upgrades outlined in the consent included a covered walkway, and a playground for the proposed child care centre, which would cater for 30 children.
Southern Lakes Christian School caters for years 1-8 pupils and is expected to open with a roll of 30 to 40 this year with four new classrooms and an auditorium having been added over the holidays.
The private school is set to become a state-integrated school this year, and will be renamed Kingsview School when the process is complete.
Last year, board of trustees chairman Roland Lemaire-Sicre said plans were being finalised for a new site in the Remarkables Park subdivision during the next two to three years, which would cater for more than 500 secondary school pupils.
