Passengers up 14.5%

The number of passengers using Queenstown Airport for the last 12 months ending June was just short of the 1.2 million target for 2012-13 at 1,198,918, but it was still up 14.5% for the year, the Queenstown Airport Corporation says.

Domestic passenger numbers were up 12.4% for the 2012-13 financial year while international passengers were up 23.8% for the same period.

The corporation said the 5.7% fall in domestic passenger numbers was due to a reduced number of scheduled flights, with Jetstar flying fewer services than in June 2012.

Domestic passenger numbers were further affected by weather disrupting 28 of the scheduled flights.

International flights increased from 72 landings for June compared with 49 for June last year, resulting in a 47.3% increase in international passengers.
