Beating the winter bulge will have crossed most Wakatipu women's minds this winter, before being quickly replaced with the more comforting thought of hot puddings, but a local dietitian says she may be able to help.

Helen Reid, of Arrowtown, has set up a weight education programme to combat the way we that think about weight loss.

"I want this to be a fun thing for everyone," Mrs Reid said.

She will be giving nutritional advice to residents as part of her Eat To Live, Excel programme starting on Tuesday, September 6.

The course filled a gap in Queenstown market, with Weight Watchers and similar programmes increasingly going online.

"I find there's no offer for people wanting to lose weight as a group here."

Mrs Reid will be sharing recipes to help with weight management and Louise Shepard, of Body Mechanics physiotherapists, will take patrons through an exercise regime throughout the 15-week programme.

"The reality is you've got to have healthy eating and exercise together," Mrs Reid said.

Participants will pay a $49 joining fee and a further $15 per visit.

Sessions will be held weekly at the Frankton Presbyterian Church.

If the programme is successful, Mrs Reid and Ms Shepard hope to continue into next year, running 10-week courses that fit in with the school terms.
