Paintball aims to spread

Paintball could be coming to Jacks Point after Kudos NZ Ltd lodged a resource consent application for the activity.

The company has managed Wanaka Paintball for two years and is looking to spread its operations to Henley Downs, at Jacks Point.

In Paintball, two teams try to recover "flags" from their opponents by firing balls of paint through a toy gun.

The application said the company was looking at a 2ha site, with a pine plantation and open space.

If successful, the operation would require three non-residential buildings - one for the equipment, one for overalls and the other for portable toilets.

It would also construct shade cloth alleyways.

While the paintball markers would make more noise when triggered than was allowed, the closest neighbours were more than 500m away and would be unable to see, smell or hear the operation, the application said.

It also said the paint used in the activity was biodegradable.

Kudos NZ Ltd had been working with Jacks Point director Mike Coburn and Arith Holdings Ltd trustee John Hurlihy.

The application was for a consent period of three to five years.
