It is believed the vehicle, with a single occupant, crashed into a tree on Malaghans Rd, about halfway between Queenstown and Arrowtown.
Police were notified about 7am.
Arrowtown fire crews, Queentown police and St John staff are on the scene.
Motorists can expect delays as police investigate the scene.
