Snow lovers rejoiced in Queenstown yesterday morning, waking to find the Remarkables and other mountains surrounding the resort covered in snow.
Residents at Fernhill, Arthurs Point and Arrowtown reported snow falling on the ground, however it was the snow on the mountains which provided a stunning backdrop to autumn colours all over the basin.
A MetService weather forecaster told the Otago Daily Times last night it was likely between 5cm and 10cm fell at the top of the ranges, but the cold snap was "brief".
A "fresh start" was on the way for the Wakatipu this morning, but it would be a fine, sunny day with some rain forecast for tonight.
Tomorrow was expected to be fine with a milder northerly developing on Thursday.
Easter was likely to get off to a wet start, with rain forecast for Queenstown on Good Friday.
