Much on offer in holiday programme

Adventure rafting, rock climbing, skateboarding and paintballing are among the events on offer for young people in the Summer Madness holiday programme, courtesy of Queenstown's X-it Youth Centre.

The programme is for people aged 12 to 24 years. It makes its annual return this week.

There is adventure rafting tomorrow. The Shotover River trip with Family Adventures is from 1pm to 7.30pm and costs $35 per person.

Rock climbing with a professional guide will be held on Friday from 1pm to 6pm and the trip costs $12.

The "Summa Sk8 Sesh" involves top skateboarders battling it out at the Queenstown skate park for cash and gear prizes.

The event is on Saturday, from 10am to 4pm.

Summa Sk8 Sesh costs $5 for under-16s and $10 for others.

Young women expressed interest in health and beauty advice to X-it workers, so a style workshop with tips from Queenstown professionals will be held next Tuesday, and Tuesday, February 1, both days from 1pm to 6pm.

Attending one workshop costs $20, or $30 for both.

The X-it team will go to Cromwell for the ever-popular paintball games.

The $40 entry fee includes 100 paintballs.

The pick-up and drop-off location for all activities is the X-it Youth Centre, on Stanley St, except the Summa Sk8 Sesh, which is in the Queenstown Gardens.

Prices cover activity and transport but not food.

X-it youth worker Fi Sawers said yesterday Summer Madness activities were "a whole heap of fun and opportunities to hang out with friends and make new ones".

Interested youths can register for any or all of the activities by sending an email to xityouthcentre@yahoo.co.nz.

Alternatively, keen contenders can telephone 0277 105-368 to contact a programme co-ordinator; or visit the centre.
